2024, Pilsen

In 2024, we were invited to submit a concept design for residential buildings in the Lobzy district of Plzeň. We presented a proposal for two buildings, each with six residential floors. To determine the fundamental layout of the buildings, we analyzed the orientation of the plot relative to the cardinal directions in order to achieve optimal solar exposure for the apartments. The goal of our design is to provide every resident, even those living in the smallest apartment, with the most pleasant and dignified living space possible. For this reason, our designed two-room units feature an enfilade, which lends them a sense of generosity and allows small spaces to be visually connected into a larger whole. Each apartment also includes an outdoor space—a balcony that can be opened across its entire width, thus facilitating a perfect integration of exterior and interior. Furthermore, emphasis is placed on the high quality of shared spaces, particularly outdoor areas, which offer a place for neighbors to gather. The overall warm character of the building is shaped by natural materials—wood and brick—which age beautifully, as well as by the anticipated vibrancy brought by diverse balcony plants and the life lived upon them.
